Wellbeing
Mentoring, peer support and where to get help. Wellbeing is an active process, not an afterthought.
Nominate a colleague
Know someone who's performed above and beyond the standard of care? Nominate them - nominees are acknowledged by the DEM or NUM, and may also go forward for the junior doctor / registrar of the year award.
Mentoring
Monash Emergency believes strongly in mentoring. Through the Emerging Physicians program, every trainee is matched with an Emergency Physician mentor - with a say in who that is - and supported by a Program Coordinator throughout. Your mentor is a constant point of contact and guide across all your rotations, inside and outside the Emergency Department.

Where to get help
ACEM wellbeing resources
College-level wellbeing guidance and support services. β
Confidential counselling (EAP)
Monash Health's Employee Assistance Program, run through Converge International, provides free, confidential access to psychologists and mental health professionals. β
Debriefing
Structured debriefing is available after critical incidents or difficult shifts, facilitated by trained staff or peer support.
Peer support
The Monash ED Peer Support Program offers a confidential, context-specific listening ear for ED physicians and registrars - over the phone or in person. Conversations are confidential unless there's a personal safety concern; no notes are kept.
You might be contacted after a difficult clinical event, or you can self-refer, ask your director or DEMT, or reach the on-call peer support person through the Monash Health contact centre (identify yourself as an MH ED registrar). Peer supporters are trained, unpaid volunteer colleagues - many of whom have themselves been supported through the program.
